| I know this thread is about bands, but it was the best place to post this (I also posted it on FBTB): Yay....It's finally here. I just got Death Magnetic from Metallica. I have been anticipating this album for quite some time now, and ever since they first released The Day That Never Comes to the public, I have going crazy about it, and it's finally out. Today had to have been one of the longest school days ever. I spent the whole day not-so-patiently waiting to get out of there and go get my copy of Death Magnetic. The time finally came and I rushed to my car and raced over to Target. To my surprise, they hade shelves full of these albums. I spent a few minutes looking for one that was in perfect condition and I got it. I got out to my car and ripped the plastic off. The case is a beauty. It stays with the new (and possibly bad) trend of cradboard cases, but it's design is jaw dropping. The front has a cut out around the coffin in the center. You open up the front flap and behind it is the booklet, which in turn has cut outs surrounding the coffin, which is actually on the last page of the booklet. Each cutout gets smaller to give a neat perspective. The booklet itself has all the lyrics in it, but uses the idea of the cutouts, so some of the words are partially cut away, which is a very cool concept and the sentences are still legible. Each page features the lyrics to one song, but they are (strangely) not in order and each page has a cool/weird picture on it. After opening the second flap you are greated by the CD itself. I quickly put it in and I was not disappointed to hear the heavy guitar and drums of a band I love. I listened to it as I drove. I could't help but giggle due to the sheer awesomeness of the music. It's not exactly the Metallica that you heard on the classic albums, but it's great none-the-less. It still sounds like Metallica should, but has a new, more intense feel. I must say, after hearing the first couple songs, I was begging for more. I thoroughly enjoyed this album. I found it to be an amazing piece of art. For all those Metallica fans who are skeptical of it (most likely due to St. Anger* ), don't hesitate to get it, it's not disappointing at all. I think this may even get people who are into newer music to become fans of Metallica. It's amazing. I can't get enough of it. It's not entirely classic Metallica, but I don't think that's all bad. It sounds newer, but it still has that raw sound and it has some pretty sweet solos. It is a magnificent album. I took some pictures of the album too: Front Inside, cover of booklet Booklet page Disk There are more pictures I didn't like to. *Sorry for the St. Anger joke, it seems like you can't talk about Metallica anymore without having St. Anger mentioned. And sorry if your eyes burned after seeing that album mentioned | |

| I was spawned deep beneath the Pre-Cambrian sea, the scion of a far distant sun... I have traversed the endless stars, and journeyed to a myriad galaxies... The dimensional gates of the multiverse are mine to voyage effortlessly beyond, Cosmic infinity is naught to one such as I... I am as one with celestial eternity... Clad in gleaming pentlandite armour, on a whim I may reshape entire worlds, Or extinguish the blazing light of a sun... and I remain forever enchanted by sylphs...
I have seen demons lick your ivory hands, And watched you ride naked upon the backs of fire-dragons... Your eyes sparkle clear as hoar-frost, And yet they are thrice as devoid of warmth.
Wielding this power cosmic, the omniverse is mine to conquer! Our progency shall rule the very cosmos itself!
Arcane power lances from my fingertips, Life withers before my baleful gaze. The proud citadels of great antediluvian empires Have been razed to the ground by my zircon blade.
Your invocations unleashed the great worm Which compelled the devouring seas to Atlantis... Riding the screaming crest of fettered lons, I shall bring my crystalline chaos where order reigns!
Return with me... beyond the stars... Rule with me... a thousand worlds...
The Galactic Nexus has empowered me (I am gloriously, eternally omnipotent!) And as a god I shall return to the Praesidium of Ys!

| Anberlin's new album, New Surrender, will be released tomorrow, and I'm pretty pumped about it!
However, after giving it a few listens on Myspace, it still hasn't quite stood up to the last two epic albums, Never Take Friendship Personal, and Cities, at least for now; it takes me quite a lot of listening for me to finally decide whether I like a song or not, especially with alternative rock.
All in all, I still plan on picking it up as soon as I can. | |
